Indicaties
Hond: tweedelijnstest, beste test om bijniertumoren van hypofyse-afhankelijk hyperadrenocorticme te onderscheiden, niet om HAC op zich te diagnosticeren.
Kat: aantonen van hypofyse-afhankelijk hyperadrenocorticme.
Differentiatie primair en secundair hypoadrenocorticisme

Bloedname in plastic recipiënt, onmiddellijk plasma afcentrifugeren en invriezen. Toevoegen van aprotinine (proteaseremmer) helpt ACTH stabiliseren bij >4°C. Inspanning, excitatie en stress vermijden.
Staal afnemen voor een ACTH-stimulatietest uitgevoerd wordt.

ACTH op zich kan niet gebruikt worden om hyperadrenocorticisme te diagnosticeren. De secretie verloopt episodisch en normale en HAC-waarden overlappen elkaar in belangrijke mate.
